Andrew Morrison is a multi skilled artist whose work combines a love of poetry and typology with visual arts and printmaking.
He lived most of his early life in Sussex and both his parents came from Surrey so much of the county is familiar to him. He studied Illustration at Leicester and then printmaking at Buckingham-Chilterns University. For many years now he has combined days creating his own prints and books with running workshops, lecturing and working on community arts projects and artists’ residencies.
In 2005 he co-founded Two Wood Press – letterpress and relief printers in Gloucestershire - an antidote to computer design and in favour of hand-made physical printing!
As well as showing at many exhibitions in the UK, Andrew’s work has been shown at venues around the world, recently in Mexico, Spain and the Netherlands and is held in many collections, including the Tate Gallery.
Andrew likes to use imagery that comes, in some way, from the local environment. Every place has its specific qualities; the names of its roads, the surface of its pavements and fences, the lettering that identifies its shops; the visual traditions that make a ‘location’ and he tries to use these particularities in developing and making an artwork. He believes that ideas, imagination and hard work are just as important as the practical skills in helping to develop a project. |
