How we work with theatre makers...

We support South East artists who are committed to developing a relationship with the audiences of the region.  We occasionally work with theatre makers from other regions and from abroad who further enrich the range of work available to the South East.
We support companies by offering:

Advice sessions
We will arrange an initial meeting with any regionally based company or artist to hear ideas and ambitions and offer advice on touring, production and funding applications.

Residencies and R&D
We invest in the research and development of new ideas. Typically this will involve us providing space for rehearsal and development, occasionally money and sometimes accommodation and travel costs.

Associate companies
These companies benefit from financial and producing support, advice and mentoring, rehearsal and office space.

Resident companies
Presently four companies are based at the Maltings working from a shared theatre office. They have access to rehearsal space, our advice and networks.

Affiliated companies
We support a range of other companies on a project-by-project basis with advice, mentoring and rehearsal space.

No Strings Attached
We manage No Strings Attached - a grant scheme that aims to help young people, aged between 18 and 25, make their first piece of theatre. Grants between £500 and £1000 are available to young people from across the South East region.

Other things we do...

Creating theatre
We make our own new theatre.  Productions that are rooted in the familiar which attempt to make sense of the world we live in, performed in non traditional theatre spaces.

Touring theatre
We support a network of rural venues across Surrey, work with the region's rural touring schemes and are building relationships with the region’s middle scale venues.

International
We run caravan, a biennial theatre showcase that presents new English work to an international audience, with the Brighton Festival. We have a sister company in Canada, Theatre Passé Muraille, Toronto - with whom we regularly exchange work and develop joint projects. We are also members of Trans Europe Halle, a European network of creation centres.

Participation
We manage a network of seven youth theatres across Waverley including a technical group, host an annual youth theatre festival, work with Pursued by a Bear on 'Fresh Tracks', a young playwrights project, and are developing a theatre and circus festival.
